Civil War letters of Rufus Peck, family correspondence, a school certificate, and a marriage license from Chattanooga, Tenn. Peck's Civil War letters to his family describe his service at Camp Morton and Shiloh, and health problems. Family correspondence is from Lydia Peck and Louis and William Gorton. Also included is Theodore Peck's matriculation certificate at a business school in Louisville, Ky.

Rufus A. Peck, a farmer of New Providence, Clark County, Ind., served as Captain of Company E, 53rd Indiana Volunteers during the Civil War. He saw duty at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, and in Tennessee near Shiloh and at Hatchie. He and his wife Lydia had a son, Theodore. From the description of Papers, 1862-1885.
